A Quick Shoot

After 5 years being garage rebuilt with VW Motorsport in mind…..it was time for a dust off on the Corrado to see what Ryan had us waiting for. I rode with his cousin Chris in his OEM+ GTI.

More on the cars later…I just want the photos.

Building a Beast

Sometime it takes more than just buying a few off the shelf parts that bolt on to your car to set it apart from the rest. Sometimes you have to cut, hammer, weld,  torch, and bleed what you really want. Josh has done just that with his 2003 Black Magic Pearl 20th Anniversary GTI #1257. Now that he was off to tearing up the rolling  roads of Bath Ohio….he could start his beast. Somehow before we knew it, Josh traded his stock Aristos for 17″ staggered Keskin KT-1′s and in less than 12 hours those had been traded for 18×8.5  BBS CH’s……

Josh did not want ordinary OEM HID projectors so he built his own. Picked up a set of OEM GTI headlight so he could tuck away his 20th headlights for safe keeping. After hours of leveling, trimming and test fitting Touareg Bi-Xenon projectors…. he finally had what he wanted. Perfection.  Also perfectly tucked away under that front end is an Evo 9 intercooler with a GFB diverter valve dumping into the air for us all to hear.

After all…who doesn’t get bored with a chipped K03s? All we want is power so I do not see anything wrong with slapping in a set of Integrated Engineering rods to support the 5857 Precision Turbo. A little persuasion of the rain tray was needed to fit the 5857 and the DEi turbo jacket to keep the blistering heat away from everything. Feeding  enough fuel to that volume of pressurized air needed 4 870cc injectors. All of this is controlled by a Unitronic Stage 3 ecu assisted by an AEM boost controller. I really like the 3rd gear downshift to 4krpm with a bit of a throttle punch to rocket past 100mph before you know it.

Keeping all this power to the ground can be a tricky task for any fwd. Josh took his 6 speed O2m with him to work at Global Garage. With the help of Jeff, the shop’s owner, Josh and Jeff had drilled out rivets on the old ring gear and stock open differential. Then the critical re-shimming of the new Quaife differential in place of the old. With a set of Ksport coilovers… I have to say I have never been in a better handling GTI and would love to drive as my own daily driver. What about the brakes? Josh kept the 20th anniversary vented rears and grabbed a set of MKIV .:R32 front brakes for a bit of extra stopping power. But it is a bit more like an instant seatbelt lock while slowing down sooo quickly….its just crazy.

Currently the motor is out and torn down for a full build of parts from INA Engineering.  I guess we will all have to wait to see what Josh brings out for 2012!

Good Morning Golf R

What a nice Saturday morning. Delivered a 20k fresh 1.8T to Global Garage from our 20th partout and got to check out Adam’s new Golf R. Was a great opportunity to poke around and see everything that was taken from the MKV R32, MKVI, and Tiguan platforms. From the waxed up undercarriage to the two peice timing belt cover and the 6speed only options….VW got this R just right.
